Hi! It's hard to believe, but I've been teaching in the ABE/GED program since 1990. What I like best about the work we do together is participating in the journey you are making to learn and improve your lives. It's so great to share in that joy you experience when you reach a goal you've set for yourself. I love to read and I love the freedom that reading gives me to learn about all that interests me, so it's natural that I would want to share that. Writing is one of the ways we communicate and facilitating your voices to be heard in writing is exciting for me. Lastly, it is through teaching math that I've come to appreciate it's amazing qualities of patterns and reliability. The fact that we can't live well without math is also motivating. So that's me, the teacher.
A little history about me reveals the story of America, a place of refuge and immigration. I was born in New York soon after my parents arrived in New York. They survived World War II and started life over in this country. They quickly became citizens and loved this country and all its promise. We moved to Los Angeles, California when I was 8 and that's where after a life of many summers at the beach that I reveled in, I went to UCLA to become a teacher.
When I married, I left the school I taught at, lived in Tucson, Arizona, had a baby girl, moved to Minnesota, had a baby boy and returned to teaching when they went to school also. My family gives me a delightful and interesting launching pad to all that I do and learn in this life.
When I landed at the airport in Minneapolis/St. Paul this last summer on a beautiful day, I realized how much I've grown to love this place. It has so much that I desire for my life - nature, culture, and good people. I look forward to seeing my continuing students and to meeting all of you new learners who will join our program this year and together move forward.
Bye for now.

It was nice to read and learn a bit more about you, Ruth. You've had such a long and interesting career as a teacher. I hope that this year is another successful one for you and your learners!

Hey, Ruth,
It has been a joy working with you, a fellow Californian. It is going to be another great year in your classroom. I continue to enjoy hearing your family history and travel experiences.

What a great bio, Ruth. I didn't know about you were a UCLA grad, or that you lived in Arizona for a time. I am looking forward to working with you this year and all of the new and exciting learning we can produce and experience together!

Ruth,
I can't believe that we've both worked for the district for the same amount of time! It goes quick! What a lot of adventures you have had! I don't know if I could leave the ocean for Minnesota though... I'm surprised you didn't tell us a little bit about your recent trip! Thanks for sharing everything else!
